Part of a series of picture books that investigate materials (the other titles are Cotton, Nylon and Silk), this book is appropriate for children in kindergarten through the second grade.

Young learners will find out where wool comes from, how it is made into yarn and dyed, and how it is fashioned into clothing like mittens or a scarf.

The simple text centers on six questions and the accompanying answers. There is a glossary of challenge words like fleece, knit, shears and strand.

Color photos provide the illustrations that the child can follow as a sheep gets a haircut, the clean wool is twisted into yarn and a young girl uses knitting needles to create some type of apparel.

The creative parent or teacher can use this book as a way of launching a discussion of fabric, clothing, or how animals provide for us in many different ways.
