A
long A Long Road
may look like an ordinary children's book until you start reading and look more closely at what the bike rider sees along the way. The illustrations alone make the ride worthwhile.
M
ap-like illustrations follow a biker along a bright yellow road from the coast to his destination and then it's suggested that you '
start all over again
'. His ride shows the concepts of up and down as he rides through hills. And into and out as he enters a tunnel, but the concepts are never heavy handed.
T
his is graphic designer Frank Viva's first children's book although his illustrations have appeared in Esquire, Time, the Boston Globe and other prestigious periodicals. I'll look for future books by Viva. His work is original in the crowded field of picture books.
