he was crowned queen at the age of 26 and during her 45 year reign Great Britain flourished. Queen Elizabeth's navy defeated the Spanish armada in 1588 and William Shakespeare was one of her loyal subjects.

he daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth was removed from the royal line of succession after her mother was executed for treason by her father. As a young woman, Elizabeth was imprisoned in the Tower of London for suspected plotting against her sister, Mary Tudor, who had deposed Lady Jane Grey as the Queen.
