After seeing Big Ben from their red, double deck bus, the pair walk through St, James Park and over to Buckingham Palace to see the Changing of the Guard. Then they head for Trafalgar Square on their way to having lunch in a Covent Garden restaurant. In the afternoon the mother and child walk through Westminster, take a quick tour of St. Paul's Cathedral and then the Bank of England, and then visit the Tower of England where they view the Crown Jewels. Tired of walking, the two then board a ferry which takes them back to their starting point where they will catch a bus that will take them home. Beautifully illustrated, this picture book for children four years of age and older also features a fold out Thames Panorama that gives a sweeping view of the heart of the city on both sides of the river. Not only does Salvatore Rubbino introduce the reader to the major sights of London but he also includes lots of fascinating trivia about the city. For example, you'll learn what time the Changing of the Guard takes place, how many servings of fish and chips are eaten every day in Britain, how many steps there are in St. Paul's Whispering Gallery and how many visitors each year enjoy a lift on The London Eye. This would be an ideal book to use to prepare a youngster for a trip to London. Besides offering an overview of the important tourist sites you'll be visiting, it offers some interesting tidbits about the history and culture of the city.
