his picture book is a wonderful introduction to the big cats of the world. After introducing each big cat, a domestic cat in introduced and their similarities are shown.
T
he author indicates the area where the cat lives. The tiger lives in the jungle where the gibbon also lives. The cheetah lives on the Savannah. There are warthogs in the Savannah also. The lion lives in the Kalahari where the springbok, a grazing mammal, also lives.
A
lthough the big cats often chase their prey, in the picture book portion of the book, they never catch them. Prey is discussed later in the educational section of the book.
T
his is a great teaching book for children aged 4 to 9. The educational pages include the cats and their Latin names, cat senses, and a world map indicating where each of the big cats live, plus a list of interactive websites. The reader can decide how much to teach, by age or the interest of the child.
