First there's the call. 'All aboard the Rain Train!' Once you have taken your seat, the engine glides from the station. 'Tickets, please! Clipperty-clip. Close all the windows! Spitter-spat-spit.' As we start our journey into the dark, wet night, the rain is falling. The train gathers speed. Over a bridge, past a river, through a tunnel and across the plain the engine cuts through the wet landscape. Aboard the sleeping car the boy is ready to bed down for a comforting night's rest and when he wakes up he'll be at his destination and a new, sunny day will be dawning. This rhythmic narrative is ideal for reading aloud to youngsters between the ages of one and five. Capturing the sounds of the stormy night and the rushing train, the author has made this a tale that any child will love joining in as he or she recreates the 'pitter-pat' of the rain and the 'clatter-clat-clat' of the train as it rushes along the tracks.
