This paperback contains some wonderful poems that should appeal to boys of all ages. When you are trying to create an enthusiasm for poetry in young readers, it is often wise to begin by using works which cater to one sex or the other. This might mean poems featuring princesses and witches versus great heroes and dangerous animals.

Once the youngster has discovered that reading poetry can be just as much fun and just as exciting as reading prose, then you can broaden the subject matter regardless of whether it will appeal to one group of readers or the other.

100 Great Poems for Boys is divided into the following sections: Animals, Battlefields and Heroes, Things to Think About and Just for Laughs. The poetry here includes classics such as If (Rudyard Kipling), The Road Not Taken (Robert Frost), Paul Revere's Ride (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow) and A Boy Named Sue (Shel Silverstein).

A companion volume includes 100 Great Poems for Girls. As you look over the contents of both anthologies you'll quickly see that the majority of these poems would probably work reasonably well with either sex, so you might wish to purchase both books and mix and match!
