T
his interactive board book focuses on the sounds and creatures found in or along a river. Each spread features a touch-and-feel element that, when touched, creates the sound described in the text.
Y
ou'll find a dragonfly, two crayfish, minnows, a pair of frogs, and a couple of beavers, plus a child splashing his feet in the water. Although some of the
sounds
the special touch-and-feel sections supposedly replicate are actually close to the sound made by the creature, others are a bit of a reach.
F
or children between one and four years of age, this little
touch & hear
book does have some nice art work and that will probably be why you will decide to purchase this book.
B
ut you'll probably discover it makes more sense to supply your own sound effects ('
crickety croak
' or '
munch, munch, munch
') rather than rely on the tactile elements.
W
ould I purchase this book? I might, but it would be only because I like the idea of familiarizing a child with the creatures found around water. Obviously I wasn't impressed that much with the board book's touted touch and feel elements.
