Glass knows what fans of the genre wants and she keeps the pages flying through a story that has a unique mix of demons, artifacts, and Egyption mythology. Orphaned as an infant and then given up by her foster family at the age of twelve, Kira Solomon has learned to not get close to people. Aside from getting her heart broken, she can damage them in a more physical way – her touch takes memories from people (draining them of their life source) and objects. This power may make it hard to make many friends, but her job as a Shadowchaser leaves no room for a social life. Shadowchasers are an elite group under the Gilead Commission who hunt powerful dark demons known as Shadows. Kira has a day job, too; using her powers, she authenticates artifacts and hopes one day to retire from the Shadowchasing life and go to work full time with her mentor, Bernie. Her dreams are quickly dashed, though, after Bernie leaves her with an ancient Egyptian dagger and winds up the victim of a seeker demon only hours later. Her heart shattered once again, Kira is determined to find Bernie's killer and will not let anything stand in her way – including the 4000-year-old, incredibly hot owner of the blade. Shadow Blade is a true page-turner. Even during the non-action scenes, Glass maintains the frantic pace, keeping the reader fully absorbed in Kira's quest. Her world-building is excellent, as is her ability to create back stories for her characters. The characters themselves are all unique and interesting, easily coming to life right off the page and sticking in the reader's mind long after the book is finished. Fans of the paranormal/urban fantasy genre will not want to miss Seressia Glass's new series. Shadow Blade is just the beginning of Kira's adventures, but it will definitely leave the reader hungry for more.
