enowned for his paper-engineering, Britain's Robert Crowther outdid himself with this latest title in his transportation series. Young readers four years of age and older are invited onto a construction site to try their hands at operating the big machines.
N
ot only are there multiple pop-ups with some moving pieces in each section but the young construction worker will also find additional pull-out play pieces in pockets that can be used to
interact
with the equipment. For example, there are different tools and trailers to attach to the back of the green tractor as well as a pallet and a box to carry on the folklift.
E
ach machine (bulldozer, tractor, forklift, dump truck and tower crane) comes with a
fact file
that gives key statistics. There are also more detailed information and pictures on a flip open section of each spread. Along with the pop-up dump truck there are color photos of quarry equipment like a dragline, wheeled loader, crusher and rock crawler carrier.
A
s the title suggests, this is an
amazing
picture book that anyone, child or adult, who is fascinated by this type of equipment will want to own. As with any pop-up book, care must be taken when enjoying this volume but it is rather hardy and should hold up to average wear.
O
ne cautionary note:
This book does have small parts that could be a choking hazard for young children. Please keep it away from any child who might be inclined to place the pieces in his or her mouth!
