The first chance he gets, Alfie runs away from the pet sitter's house, but he immediately finds himself lost in a forest next to her home. Fortunately, some friendly foxes befriend the dog and teach him the survival skills he needs to live on his own. Naturally, Alfie doesn't forget Charlie and the boy is also looking for his runaway pet. After many adventures, the two are reunited so this novel ends on a happy note. But, at the same time, Alfie will never forget his two new friends, Sunset and Fixit, who shared his time away from Charlie and made it so instructive. By Jill Murphy, author of the successful Worst Witch series, Dear Hound is an ideal book for beginning readers who are ready to graduate to material a little more challenging.
