Why does a snake flick out its tongue? Why can I see through glass? Why do leopards have spots? Unfortunately, parents don't always have the answers that these inquiring minds and their queries require. That's where this handy little book comes in. The editors of this book have collected fifty common questions that a child four or five years of age might ask. Along with a simple, non-technical answer to each question you'll also discover a Did you know ... sidebar with additional facts and material about the subject. For example, after learning that a leopard's spots allow the big cat to blend in with its environment, the sidebar briefly discusses animal fur color and how it can change from winter to summer. Along with the text, each question is accompanied by a cartoon illustration that features the same cast of three characters. You'll also find a Quick-Quiz at the back of the book to see how well your child remembers the answers to these questions and a glossary of Tricky Words such as scent, antibodies and immune system. So, if your youngster wants to know why ships float, why spiders spin webs, or why giraffes have long necks, this is the book you'll want to consult.
