his dramatization of the sea turtles' fight for survival begins with a baby turtle hatching on a Florida beach one dark night. First the little fellow has to make it back to the ocean from the nest and then, once in the water, she must avoid becoming a meal for a number of marine predators.
I
f the little turtle is successful making it to adulthood (and she is), the cycle will be completed when she returns to the beach where she was hatched to lay her own eggs.
T
he author not only explains the dangers the sea turtle must beware of, but Sayre also stresses that humans help along the way and do what they can to aid the endangered species to overcome potential obstacles that might threaten their existence.
R
eissued with new illustrations, the picture book, which is appropriate for readers five years of age and older, also contains new information on sea turtle conservation efforts and material on the seven species of sea turtles.
A
n excellent resource for youngsters interested in marine life,
Turtle, Turtle, Watch Out!
would be an ideal book to read before visiting an ocean aquarium or the seashore, since it heightens awareness on the importance of protecting our ocean legacy.
