Aimed at children five years of age and older, the color photos in this book take the reader to the source of what eventually ends up on the shelves of the neighborhood food store. Every month is harvest time somewhere in the United States so, going month by month, the author highlights some of the produce or other commodities that are in season. Each section includes a map that features the states where the harvest is taking place. For example, in January carrots are plucked from the fields in Texas, citrus is shipped from orchards in Florida, and workers in Hawaii collect pineapples for shipment. Whether it is seafood, eggs, grapes, cranberries or potatoes, the young reader will discover that the food comes from a myriad of places coast to coast. As the author explains at the book's conclusion, 'Harvest riches from the land and sea are gathered in all year long. Using combines, conveyors, nets, hooks, and many working hands, farmers and fishermen produce the food that travels into stores and onto your table.'
