Horrid Henry and the Scary Sitter (by Francesca Simon and illustrated by Tony Ross) is one in a very popular, long-running series of chapter books (each including four stories) from the UK. They're about a mischievous boy (Henry) and his younger brother, Perfect Peter.

Horrid Henry Tricks and Treats begins 'Halloween! Oh happy, happy day!' After all, stuffing your face and playing horrid tricks are Henry's favorite pastimes. Aptly costumed as a devil, Henry sneers at Peter, dressed as a 'big, pink, bouncy bunny'. Since Peter will be trick-or-treating with him, Henry has to do something about his brother's appearance - which gets him grounded and given the job of handing out treats. Can you guess what Horrid Henry does next?

In Horrid Henry and the Scary Sitter, his reputation makes it hard for his parents to hire a sitter. At their wits' end, they call Rabid Rebecca, 'the toughest teen in town'! And though it's touch and go, Henry does finally find her weak spot. In Horrid Henry's Raid, it's war between his Purple Hand club and Moody Margaret's Secret Club - guess who wins! And finally in Horrid Henry's Car Journey, he's forced to go to a family christening instead of a birthday party at Goo-Shooter World. Henry works hard at driving his parents crazy.

Whether they're horrid (like Henry) or perfect (like Peter) or (more likely) something in between, young readers will be engrossed by these horrid adventures - and will probably see something of their own behavior between the pages too.
