Granted, taking your pet pig to the movies might not be the swiftest of ideas but Mercy Watson (the pig) is usually very well behaved. Since the film When Pigs Fly seems to be one Mercy might enjoy and it is showing at the local drive-in, what harm could come of a pleasant outing like this?

Once the Watson family parks their car it becomes all too obvious why this little trip to the movies is going to be a real trial for everyone concerned. When Mercy catches a whiff of the wonderful, incredible smell of buttered popcorn, she hops out of the car and begins to investigate. Locating a child with a bottomless container of the delicious popcorn, Mercy decides to help herself. Unfortunately, she doesn't first ask if the child wants to share and the girl shouts, 'Papa, a monster is eating my popcorn!'

Obviously Papa is not amused by the situation nor are a host of other folks at the drive-in. Sampling other bottomless containers of popcorn, the ravenous porker almost causes a riot. It takes two local firemen and the promise of something even tastier than popcorn to get Mercy back where she belongs in the family car.

This chapter book for readers six years of age and older continues the splendid saga of Mercy Watson. The series has stretched to six books and over half a million copies of the likeable pig's misadventures are now in print. If your child has not yet made Mercy's acquaintance perhaps it is about time he or she did. You'll find this porcine wonder will quickly wiggle her way into your youngster's heart.
