The Lion and the Mouse
.
T
o tell a story in few words is difficult, to tell it with none, a skillful feat indeed. Pinkney has accomplished it, allowing his creatures to speak by movement, facial expression, and body language. There is no narrative in this book, merely animal sounds. His lush watercolor illustrations spotlight the beauty of the animal kingdom and the African Serengeti in grays, browns, greens and golds.
T
he familiar story highlights that all creatures have value. Even the proud and mighty may require the help of the meek and lowly. Pinkney's rendition is a lovely means for showcasing a worthy principle. This book is destined to become a child's favorite.
