As the sky turns an ominous gray, the forest animals run for cover. A cave in the hillside attracts a bird, mouse, squirrel and rabbit. As the wind picks up, a chipmunk, raccoon, opossum, fox and woodchuck also seek shelter in the cave. Finally, the number hits ten when a skunk arrives and squeezes in!

Now there are 10 critters huddled together, tight and snug while the clouds gather. 'The wind blew. The leaves swirled. The lightning cracked. The rain fell and the thunder rumbled and grumbled ... all night long.'

Wow, what a nasty night, but the cave's inhabitants remain snug and safe as the elements rage. When morning finally arrives the critters hear a new sound from the back of the cave they did not notice before. 'Rumble, grumble!' What is that? Oh, no! Guess what? Two bears are sleeping there!

Now, one by one, each animal quietly leaves the cave so as to not wake up the snoring bears.

In this fun participation book, your preschooler can help count the creatures as they seek shelter in the cave and then count down as they exit. You'll practice both basic counting as well as animal name recognition skills as you enjoy this nicely illustrated volume. And, when you get to the last page, you'll discover a colorful rainbow and a beautiful, sunny, new day.
