T
his graphic novel for chapter book readers stars supersleuth Lunch Lady and her assistant Betty (who supplies high-tech gadgets like a
Spatu-copter
, a
Lunch Tray Laptop
and - my favorite -
Chicken Nugget Bombs
). Helped by Hector, Terrence, and Dee (the
Breakfast Bunch
), they investigate a strange substitute teacher (Mr. Pasteur) they're sure is up to no good.
A
fter an episode in which the Lunch Lady pursues robbers on her motorbike (and uses its
sloppy joe
weapon to take them down) the story unfolds in yellow and grey comic strips. After Lunch Lady finds a blueprint for robots on Mr. Pasteur's CD, she follows him after school (while the
Breakfast Bunch
pedal fast after her!)
T
ogether they foil a nefarious plot to replace teachers with cyborg substitutes - but why? You'll just have to read yourself to find out. But don't miss
Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute
- it's filled with action and funny dialog, like Lunch Lady's threat to the villain to serve up '
some whaaamburgers and cries
'.
