Best friends Luke and Penny - and nosy Natalie - live in Morgantown on the edge of mysterious dark woods, bordered by thorns. In the first episode, old Mr. Leery and his talking cat Mo introduced the trio to their new roles as Keyholders, each with a link to the magical world - a small dragon (Dracula) for Luke, a unicorn (Kirin) for Penny and a rat (Buttercup) for a dismayed Natalie. It's the job of Keyholders to protect other humdrums by ensuring that 'magic stays out of our world.' Natalie has frightening nightmares after learning that the Queen of Boggarts is on the rampage. After the Keyholders are doused in goblin slobber, Mr. Leery decides it's time for them to begin to learn to use their magic in the Shadow Realm. When he manages to get a word in edgewise amongst banter between Keyholders and links, old elf Bridger teaches the trio how to sense breaches in the border. After they return, they discover that hobgoblins have taken Mr. Leery! At the back of The Other Side of Magic is a sneak peek at the third adventure, Inside the Magic, in which the Keyholders and their links set out to rescue their elderly mentor.
