In this quirky book, a duck is left out when all of his animal companions have laid an egg. To his delight, he finds a large egg and takes it on as his own. There's just one thing: the egg is covered in green spots. Of course, all of the animals laugh at him, but Duck loves his egg fiercely. All the other eggs hatch, but Duck must continue to wait patiently.

When his egg finally hatches, everyone gets a big surprise as to what emerges.

Children will enjoy the mystery of the odd egg as they try to guess what is in there. I like the message that though things might have an odd appearance, they are still worthy of being loved.

The illustrations are utterly charming. I particularly love the first scene where Duck is shown looking underneath his body to see if there happens to be an egg. Some of the pages are also cut into flip book fashion, so that the progress of the egg can be tracked as it hatches.
