T
he premise of this educational book is to teach children the science behind how and why it snows, but it is no ordinary picture book. The
Snow Show
is presented as a television
cooking
show, hosted by Snow White with co-hosts Chef Kelvin and Jack Frost. They take the
studio audience
to the North Pole where they
cook
up some snow.
J
ust like in a recipe, the reader learns what
ingredients
are necessary for snow to occur, followed by the
directions
for making this fluffy and cold substance:
'
First warm some water with sunshine.
Watch as the water turns from liquid to invisible water vapor in the air.
Fly the water vapor high in the sky.
Reserve some vapor for later use.
Then chill the rest until it turns into
Floating drops of water or ice.
The bunches of floating drops are called ...
Clouds.

I
nterspersed throughout the book are funny sidebars with comments from the characters and the audience, along with delightful, larger-than-life illustrations.
T
he book employs a very smart concept: it makes learning so enjoyable and subtle that kids (and even adults) may not even realize that this book is educational.
The Snow Show
works on so many levels that it would be perfect for either a home or an elementary school library.
