I
t's hard to be frightened by two adorable bunnies going trick-or-treating on Halloween night. The bunnies in this preschool-aged picture book, however, are frightened by things that go
bump
or
creak
or
whooo
or
boooo
in the night as they wander through their neighborhood on Halloween, dressed in costume. Being together, though, helps them brave the not-so-spooky night.
T
he text contains words with short syllables and lots of fun onomatapaeia, making it a great choice for the preschool set.
I
love the illustrations, which feature fuzzy, whiskery and highly expressive bunnies against a black backdrop. The artist, Jeff Mack, seems to specialize in drawing bunnies and other animals; he is the illustrator of the
Bunnicula
series of chapter books, a book called
We're Rabbits
by Lisa Westburg Peters, and one of my daughter's favorites,
Hurry! Hurry!
by Eve Bunting.
