It is autumn, and a little yellow leaf is clinging to an oak tree. The other leaves have let go, but this leaf is still hanging on. Autumn comes and goes, and still, he hangs on, despite winter's first frost. Eventually, the leaf spies a red leaf that has not fallen either. ''You're here?' called the Little Yellow Leaf. 'I am,' said the Little Scarlet Leaf. 'Like me!' said the Little Yellow Leaf. Neither spoke. Finally ... 'Will you?' asked the Little Scarlet Leaf. 'I will!' said the Little Yellow Leaf. And one, two, three, they let go and soared. Into the waiting wind they danced ... Off and away and away and away. Together.' In addition to the poetic language, I like the book's concept of embracing the unknown, particularly when there is a friend by your side to support your endeavors. The high quality, lush illustrations feature a variety of uniquely blended mixed media. This book is a wonderful addition to a school or home library and is perfect for the fall season.
