I
t's the day after Christmas and ten-year-old Moxy Maxwell and her brother Mark are looking forward to flying to California for their first visit with their dad in three years.
A
ll Moxy must do is finish writing twelve thank you notes for her Christmas gifts. The notes must be completed or her mother won't allow her to make the trip. Moxy hates to write thank you notes. With the help of her little sister Pansy, she tries to come up with an easier, faster way to get her work done. Like all procrastinators, she spends more time thinking about the chore than doing it. With Moxy things get more exciting as her solutions begin to take on a malicious life of their own.
W
hen her mother finds out she didn't finish the notes, Moxy is told she can't go to California. Moxy can't believe her mother would be so cruel – only to find out she was trying to be kind. Moxy writes the first
real
thank you note of her life to her mother.
