Randy Alcon understands the difficulties of talking to children about death and dying. The author of Heaven and Heaven For Kids has penned a touching story of family and loss that takes the sting from a subject so often avoided by adults when dealing with kids.

Wait Until Then approaches death through the story of Nathan, a little boy born with spina bifida, and his grandfather. They both love baseball and Gramps frequently comforts Nathan with the fact that Jesus promises him a new body one day, telling him that when that day comes Nathan will no longer be confined to a wheelchair. Gramps too, looks forward to receiving a new, glorified body as he is dying of cancer. What would appear to be an extremely depressing story actually becomes a moving tale of love, expectation and triumph. The illustrations are exquisite and are sure to draw a young reader into the already engaging story.

While the book does take a spiritual approach it is not off putting or heavy handed. Rather it is comforting and charming in a way that will appeal to children. Wait Until Then takes a scary subject and wraps it in a cloak of warmth.
