Some may beg to differ, but Lauren Stringer has proclaimed that Winter is the Warmest Season. In this outstanding picture book, she offers evidence in the form of lovely but simple prose, as well as delightfully vivid illustrations.

She tells us that 'When winter comes, my iced summer's milk turns to hot chocolate. Cold jelly sandwiches turn into grilled cheeses. Hot soups, hot pies, and oven-hot breads make winter the warmest for the inside of me.'

After reading about all the cozy ways in which winter is warm - including fuzzy pajamas with feet, hot baths, fireplaces, and quilts piled high - you and your children will likely see winter in a different light. This is a perfect cold weather book for waking up the senses.
