There are many versions of this funny song in picture book format. This lift-the-flap picture book is one that gave my children and I great pleasure together. We often sang I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, as we giggled at the antics of all the swallowed critters being collected under the flap of the old lady's ample apron. The illustrations accentuate the humor.

They have a great time in there: greeting each other, playing 'Go fish', singing 'Old Macdonald', reading 'Old Mother Hubbard', knitting and even playing soccer. The traditional ending is modified for little ones so that, after she swallowed the horse, the old lady 'sneezed of course' and then happily waved goodbye to the fly, who began it all. But don't you still 'wonder why she swallowed that fly?'
