Where Is My Mommy?    by Julie Downing Order:  USA  Can HarperCollins, 2003 (2003) Hardcover     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Where Is My Mommy? is aimed at little ones aged 1 to 4. It's the kind of warm and comforting picture book that is perfect for bedtime reading - even the illustrations are soft and calm. Though much simpler, it reminded me a little of Margaret Wise Brown's endearing Runaway Bunny. In this one, Mommy is never far from the side of a succession of baby animals, from a bunny ('She's waking me up') through a small skunk, birds, a chipmunk, a puppy, and a kitten ('She's waiting for me'). My favorite is the chipmunk ('She's playing with me.') All these infant/mother interactions take us through an infant's waking activities and they finish with a picture of a small boy reaching for his mother ('Mommy is here!') Where Is My Mommy? is heartwarming for adults and reassuring for little ones - just the right thing to help them get to sleep!
