How to Be    by Lisa Brown Order:  USA  Can HarperCollins, 2006 (2006) Hardcover Read an Excerpt     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson In this delightful picture book, a boy and a girl (who appear to be siblings) go through the motions of acting out different animals in turn - a bear, a monkey, a turtle, a snake, a spider, a dog ... and finally a person. For example, the kids show us how to be a monkey - 'Swing from a tree. / Eat with your toes. / Copy someone. / Be curious.' The mimes for each animal end with a positive attribute, and at the end, all of those traits are included in 'How to be a PERSON'. That one ends appropriately with 'Be yourself.' How to Be is a sweet picture book that combines good values with ideas for miming play, that kids can extend beyond the animals shown here.
