Meet Chicken Little in his own story, Don't Be a Chicken. His colorful photo on the book cover shows him sitting in a football helmet, and adjusting the large eyeglasses on his face.

Melissa Lagonegro writes of a lovable character who doesn't find it easy to be a 'chicken ... Being a small chicken is even harder.' Chicken Little gets scared when he is picked on and laughed at by bullies. He has a difficult time reaching the locker at school, his helmet is too big, and the school bus driver doesn't see him. But all that doesn't matter as Chicken Little is brave. 'He warns the town that aliens are coming!', and works hard at making the baseball team. In his encouraging words, 'Being brave and small can be the best of all!'

The author's one-line of text on each page supports the bright colors and expressive faces, in cartoon-like photos, of an appealing read in the Step Into Reading® series #1.
