Maxwell is playing in the park one day when he notices a giant mountain in the background. He obsesses about mountains from that day on.

It becomes Maxwell's goal to climb the mountain, but first he has to learn to be an outdoorsman. Maxwell vigorously works out, running up and down the steps in his house. He studies maps, puts together a first-aid kit, and do on.

Finally, he is ready for his adventure, and he climbs the mountain, accompanied by his toy soldier, Harry, while his parents watch out from below. Max's training comes in handy on the journey to the summit.

I like children's books with a message, and this one is about overcoming obstacles: if you set a realistic goal and prepare as best you can, you can conquer anything, even mountains.
