T
ae Kwon Do!
is a Step Into Reading®, Step #1 book, perfect for preschoolers and first-grade readers. Terry Pierce's short, action words and sentences define the activities involved in one style of martial arts.
P
ierce shows kids stretching before class begins, jumping, and running to loosen up the muscles, then bowing to the master instructor. Together all students do the ritual forms, followed by hits, chops, flips, and spins. Each student selects a wood board to kick and break, and all wear protective gear on the head, hands, and teeth when they box and jab.
T
odd Bonita's colorful illustrations superbly show
busting
a board with a high kick, and the training garments worn with the color belt achieved in graduating from one level to another. Most of all the children's round, smiling, friendly faces show that concentration, hard work, and fun, too, are all part of the serious, healthy sport of Tae Kwon Do!
