One 'snowy, windy, cozy winter night', Snowbaby 'could not, would not sleep.' Snowpapa advises counting snowflakes, and sings wintry songs. Snowmama gives him an extra blanket of snow and an icy glass of water, but nothing works.

Then Snowmama is inspired. She and Snowpapa make Snowbaby 'a very special surprise' out of snow. Can you guess what it is? It solves the problem, so that 'finally, everyone could, would, and did drift to sleep / snuggled under their blankets of snow.'

Kids will love Kara LaReau's concept of a snow family that likes everything well chilled. And Jim Ishikawa's whimsical illustrations bring all the symbols of winter right into their home. Snowbaby Could Not Sleep is unusual and great fun.
