Lisa Wheeler gives us her usual antic verse, accompanied by Brian Floca's whimsical illustrations. 'Seven uncles, every year, / seven uncles, travel here - / shaggy coats, scarves of red, / two tall antlers on each head.' We wonder, what's this all about?

Octavia introduces each of her seven eccentric uncles in turn. One's fastest, one's loudest, one's sweetest, one's strongest, one's coolest, one's bravest, and one's smartest. But she tells us that each of them 'says his favorite niece is ME' (except for the literary type - 'When he recites, the uncles cry. / His favorite niece? Well, it is I!').

Why the annual family gathering? What's it all about? Read Uncles and Antlers and you'll find out. It made me smile :-).
