Thomas King's story, amusingly illustrated in watercolors by Johnny Wales, opens 'A long time ago when animals and human beings still talked to each other ...' Coyote can't stop admiring his 'fine suit'. He encounters Raven, who isn't so impressed by Coyote's costume, but admires Bear's suit.

Can you guess what's coming? While Bear's swimming, Coyote 'borrows' her suit, leaving Bear bare. Meddling, mischievous Raven sends Bear to take human clothes that are hanging out to dry. Next, Coyote steals a suit from Porcupine, followed by Skunk, Raccoon, Beaver and Moose. The animals all end up unhappy in human attire, and Coyote keeps on collecting.

When he runs out of closet space, Raven (who else?) suggests a yard sale and then tells all the people and critters about it. Then she waits, and watches the fun from on high. Does Coyote learn a lesson? Of course not, but it's great fun to watch his vanity and greed in action.
