Canines Gracie and Fabio 'had it all - / Two bones to chew, a rubber ball'. Life is perfect for these two pooches until 'Baby Chub Chop' comes to stay while his mum and dad hare off to Timbuktu ... 'His head was bald. / He had a rash. / He ate the most disgusting mash.' The dogs aren't impressed.

Poodle Fabio warns off the baby, but big mutt Gracie reserves judgement. Then Chub Chop manages to stand up and the trouble begins. The sweet gurgling infant turns into 'pillaging, plundering Baby Chop' and makes a royal mess, including 'lovely patterns on the floor' with Mother's inkpot. Who gets the blame? It's the doghouse for Fabio and Gracie, of course.

While Fabio mopes, Gracie investigates and tracks down the loot. The moral of this cute story in verse? 'When little angels / Start to walk, / They must be watched / Around the clock!' Too true.
