The cover makes clear what to expect from this amusing picture book - a bride and groom, Anna and Alfredo, with fixed smiles, and their ('flower girls and ring bearers'), mischievous kids looking for trouble around every corner.

We see all the preparations - bride in 'the dress of her dreams', groom polishing shoes and dance steps ... and rebellious attendants being admonished by their parents to behave. Agnes wants to be a fairy, not a flower girl, while John and Paul have other plans than to act as ring bearers. The ceremony is delayed. The kids inveigle ice cream for dinner and play with shoes under the head table. There's panic when neither shoes nor young guests can be found, but it all ends happily, and even the tooth fairy has a role.

There's not a great deal to Once Upon a Wedding, which is a cute story to share with kids (who can laugh as they learn what not to do at a wedding) - but don't show it to the bride and groom as they might decide to elope.
