This is the epic tale of a tiny Monarch butterfly and its annual three thousand mile migrations from eastern and central North America to Mexico and back again. We first meet this amazing little creature just out of the egg as 'a teeny-tiny creepy-crawly bug' driven by her instincts. She tells us 'I don't know much, but I know what I know. I gotta go! I gotta go! I gotta go to Mexico!'

She eats till she crawls out of her skin, and chats along the way with a grasshopper and an ant. Tired out, she sleeps a very strange sleep, and wakes up with 'orange and black and splendid' wings, which take her on the long, dangerous journey to Mexico, where she dances. Then it's time to fly the long way home again and lay eggs ... out of one of which comes 'a teeny-tiny creepy-crawly bug' driven by her instincts.

It's impossible not to be engaged by the story of this tiny creature who's Gotta Go! Gotta Go! She doesn't know much, just enough to travel far, and bring new beauty into the world.
