I
've long enjoyed Kate Elliott's outstanding and varied work from her original
Jaran
series to her
Crossroads
,
Spiritwalker
, and most recent
Sun Chronicles
novels. I found this one,
The Keeper's Six
, quite different once again
E
sther leads a Hex, whose combined magical talents allow them to cross space and time in the perilous Beyond. The Concilium banned them from such travel for a decade after a previous venture. As the story opens, Esther awakens to a call for help from her Keeper son Daniel, who's been kidnapped by a dragon lord. Of course, she sets out to rescue him, after persuading the more reluctant Hex members to join the quest.
S
he reaches the dragon, who demands Daniel's partner Kai (a shape-shifted dragon) in exchange for him. She refuses but does agree to meet with the individual this dragon traded with. The dragon's lieutenant, Shahin accompanies the Hex. Shahin doesn't remember his life before awakening in the dragon's Hoard. Adventures follow, and a developing relationship with Shahin. Of course, Esther rescues her son in the process.
T
he Keeper's Six
is a highly entertaining romp across the multiverse - great fun!
