Finnegan's Traveling Circus and Menagerie. It's not an easy life, but Mama's stories of the cool, magical place where she once lived help pass the time. The little doe longs to go there but Mama warns that 'Mr. Finnegan is not kind to animals who try to escape.' One night, a storm's winds open the gate to their pen and Dasher flees, with the North Star as her guide. Lost and despairing, she comes upon Santa, his sleigh, and his tired horse Silverbell. After she offers to help, they fly from rooftop to rooftop, delivering presents. Then Santa guides them home, the North Star overhead. Dasher is happy but misses her family, so Santa steps in and soon she has 'everything she ever wished for.' Dasher is a sweet story, beautifully illustrated.
