This is a companion book to the authors' Maps. The child is challenged to decorate, design and test his or her knowledge of geography and different cultures by engaging in the activities found in this book.

While one page may ask you to design and color a pattern on the kimono pictures in a full page illustration, another instruction is that the flags of the highlighted countries be drawn and colored.

Many of these tasks will force the child to use the computer since it is a handy resource to get more information so that the activity can be completed. For example, you'll want to look at some representative kimonos to see how they are decorated.

To create a floating market like the ones found in Thailand, it would be a good idea to see what they actually look like by going online. The same might be true of drawing musical instruments found in India, Ghana, Brazil and Russia.

Because of the nature of these activities, this book would work best with an older child (seven and up) who has the skills to go online and the basic art abilities to draw various objects. For the right child this book will provide hours of entertainment and be a true learning experience. It would be a great home schooling resource!
