The cast of characters in this chapter book include weasels, fish, birds and a frog. Sporting an eye patch, Bagley Brown is the main character. He's not your typical trouble making weasel. In fact, Bagley is just the opposite. He's rather helpful and he seldom gets into mischief.

Besides not acting like a typical weasel, Bagley is also different in another way. He falls in love, in this tale, with Bridget. That might be all well and good if Bridget were another weasel. but she isn't. Bridget is a fish! To say that this is a rather bizarre mismatch would be a major understatement.

Obviously there will be numerous complications as this odd relationship develops and Bagley will have to use his weasel ingenuity to get his true love out of a very precarious situation.

I won't go into more depth but rather will let you delve into this fanciful tale if it sounds like something you'd like to read. Fred Marcellino provides some excellent illustrations to accompany this strange story and they do help heighten interest in these characters.

If this unusual story takes hold it will provide an enjoyable reading experience for those who love animals and fantastical situations. At first I was a bit put off by Bagley and his friends, but the narrative got better and the plot improved. Actually, by the halfway point I was into this odd adventure!
