W
hat delightful mischief do the farmer's animals get into when he is gone? Well, there are picnics, boating excursions, amusement park rides and, naturally, lots of dancing. And, when the lookout spots the farmer returning from plowing the North Forty, all the critters settle back into their usual, boring routine in the barnyard.
N
o actual text accompanies this animal tale, just sounds the farmer's critters make, which young readers will love replicating. The detailed illustrations do more than an adequate job of
telling the story
and no matter the child's age, he or she will
get the idea
and love seeing the animals have so much fun together.
B
ooks without words (or not too many words) allow the child's imagination to fill-in-the-blanks and create a storyline. That's not a bad idea and will help foster a healthy imagination and a little creativity in even the youngest of children.
