Poetry and heavy equipment may not appear to be a good mix, but in this picture book 16 poems capture the job and personality of each piece of equipment pictured by artist David Slonim. The array of vehicles includes a street sweeper, garbage truck, snow plow, forklift and lots of construction equipment.

Granted this isn't great verse but I doubt young readers will be too critical. Actually, the pictures are the key element here and children who like to play with trucks and similar wheeled toys will focus on these machines and vehicles. For those youngsters who don't know what a cherry picker is used for or why a skid-steer loader doesn't have a steering wheel, this is an informative book as well.

Machinery fascinates boys and many girls. If you have a child who gets excited when you pass a construction site, firehouse or semi trucks on the freeway, this is a book you might want to purchase.
