I
f you have a youngster who can't get enough of Turbo, the racing snail, this picture book will be a big hit. The little snail's ascent from the tomato patch to the Indy 500 is chronicled here with plenty of colorful pictures that illustrate every step of Turbo's climb to racing fame.
A
bizarre encounter with the inside of a racing car's engine, which the snail somehow survives, sets him on the path to Gasoline Alley where he meets his racing hero, Guy Gagne. That, in turn, takes the reader and Turbo to race day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where we get a re-enactment of the classic
Hare and Tortoise
story.
T
he book comes with re-usable stickers, punch-out collector's cards, and a pull-out, double sided poster. This isn't great literature but Turbo has captured the imaginations of children. Anything we can use to get a child to read is a plus, so put the pedal to the metal, Turbo!
