My dog's name is Alfie and he is not afraid of anything. Because he is so brave I am not worried about camping in my family's backyard tonight. With Alfie by my side we can handle any event or situation. I know my dog is not afraid of bats, crocodiles, wolves, bears, spiders, or even boa constrictors, aliens or mountain lions.

No, sir. Alfie is one real valiant watchdog. Oops, what was that 'thunk!'? Alfie? Oh my goodness! Was that my brave dog racing back to the house? Oh dear. It looks like my watchdog and I will be spending the night in our room rather than outside!

This cute picture book chronicles the misadventures of one not-so-brave pooch and his boy. As the reader will discover, it is one thing to pretend to be brave and another to actually be so. Poor Alfie doesn't quite make the grade in this amusing story, but that's OK. Not every dog is cut out for guard duty.
