This unusual alphabet book showcases the antics of a little, cute puppy who sees a fresh apple pie sitting on the kitchen table. The poor little fellow is determined to get a taste of the treat.

So he will 'jump up for it', but the little girl who made it is just as determined to see that he is 'kept away from it'. Poor pup! Now she points to the kitchen door and he must 'leave without it'. Now the dog is 'miserable' but he is 'not giving up'.

As you can see, the flow of the limited text highlights the letters of the alphabet in such a manner that the young reader is learning his or her ABCs as the tale of the pup and his attempts to get at the apple pie unfolds.

Is the little fellow successful? Of course, the resolute puppy will find a way to achieve his goal which means 'yum yum!' and then he'll fall asleep in a chair and dream - 'z-z-z-z-z-z'!

The illustrations are simple but eye appealing and the clever text draws the young reader in, making this volume a welcome departure from the usual type of ABC book where various objects are pictured and named.
