In the intro to Ghost Hunt 2: MORE Chilling Tales of the Unknown, The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) founders, Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, mention that this compilation is scarier than the first, and I would have to agree. While it is still not too much for a middle grader to handle, a few stories really did send shivers up my spine.

Ghost Hunt 2 follows the same format as Ghost Hunt, but also contains more haunted historical sites – namely Alcatraz, Tombstone, and the St. Augustine Lighthouse – which makes the fictionalized accounts of real cases seem a little more ... well, real. While these historic haunted sites were interesting, the really scary stories all concerned private homes. Lost in the Lake told the tale of a young boy lost during a violent storm, The Beast in the Dark involved a ghost dog, and It's Just a Dream and Runaway Ghost both contained rather physical ghosts. However, the story I liked best was Play Dead, which was more cute than creepy.

For another round of thrills and chills, middle graders will enjoy Ghost Hunt 2. And for those who really want to hunt their own ghosts, The Ghost Hunt Expert Guide in the back is extended with expert tips.
