A lovely gothic setting and lots of physical mayhem (without too much graphic description) make this a series that young readers eight years of age and older have found quite pleasurable if not totally spook-terrific!

The third installment in the series, Sinister Scenes finds Joy Wells discovering that not only is her favorite author, E. A. Peugeot, about to have one of his stories made into a horror film, but the movie will also be shot in Spooking.

Even more exciting, thanks to a few quirky misfortunes, Joy is given the opportunity to co-star in the movie. Unfortunately, when the male lead, Teddy Danger, falls under the influence of one of Spooking's less savory personalities, the set is thrown into chaos as Teddy goes on a murderous rampage.

There are other surprises in store for the reader, including an encore performance from Joy's old nemesis, Octavio Phipps, and some startling revelations about horror writer E. A. Peugeot and aviatrix Melody Huxley, another of Joy's idols.

It's a fun and quick read - the 314 pages of this novel just seemed to fly by once Joy was given her ingénue part in The Blackthorne Inn and the cameras began rolling.
